01. Zombie
You know your game starts at the appearance of the first zombie, and you start the game with a dilemma: are you going to invest your first sun credits for sunflowers, or whether to reserve it for artillery units in preparation for these invading creatures. (I always choose the first option, I plant sunflowers immediately.)

02. Flag Zombie
I modeled my zombie after this type. The appearance of this zombie signals a wave, which is pre-indicated on the lower-right of your screen. This is the first acid test for your make-shift fortress, it’s a test of how strong is your defense against a large horde of zombies who will fill up all rows in the game.

03. Football Zombie
I absolutely hated this zombie. It’s fast, it’s tough and it’s very strong. And it appears so early in the game, whereas its weakness, the magnet-shroom (which can capture its strong armor to weaken it), appears only later in the game.

04. Dancing Zombie
For the record, even though its almanac entry came up with a disclaimer because of its similarity to a famous artist, it didn’t work out fine, forcing Popcap to come up with a patch to replace this character.

05. Zomboni
Actually, if you don’t know the weakness of this zombie, you’ll be frustrated at the power of this character, because it flattens plants (including wall-nuts and tall-nuts!) and leaves behind an ice trail for the Zombie Bobsled team. Here’s a hint: the easiest thing to destroy in the vehicle is its wheels.

06. Dolphin Rider Zombie
Here’s another one of those tough zombies, it’s a good thing this one only appears on water. This one is pretty speedy, so you need to resort to instant-kill plants like Tangle Kelps and Squashes to dispatch them. As an added bonus, the dolphin can jump over plants.

 |
07. Balloon Zombie
This zombie got lucky utilizing its lightweightedness, allowing it to just pass over your defense. It weakness is the balloon, of course, which you need to pop using aerial plants such as the Cactus and the Cattails.

 |
08. Zombie Yeti
Your almanac is pretty much filled after finishing the campaign, save for this, which is unlocked after redoing the campaign. Actually, this one is a non-enemy (I’ve never seen it attack not even once), it will appear out of nowhere but will retreat after a while, unless you kill it first, in which you will be handsomely rewarded with lots of diamonds.

09. Ladder Zombie
Imagine, an altruistic zombie. The ladder adds extra damage to plants, but the primary use of it is to plant it in a defensive unit, allowing other zombies to just climb over it. And in order to remove it, you need to dig the plant itself and replace it with a fresh unit. (Though I think you can also remove it using explosive units also such as the Jalapenos, Cherry Bombs and Doom-shrooms, as well as the Magnet-shroom, since it’s made of metal)

10. Gargantuar
The ultimate enemy! (next to Dr. Zomboss, of course, which you know you need to face since most games end up with a climactic fight with the one responsible for it all) Once you see this, you know you should have filled that row with melon-pults and possibly other plants that can shoot from other rows, you must have a ready stash of plant bombs and the Cob Cannon is ready for action. And watch out for the red-eyed variety you see in the Survival minigame.
